The Experience of Zhydychyn St. Nicholas Monastery Presented within the European Heritage Hub International Programme
Representatives of Zhydychyn St. Nicholas Monastery are participating in the international Peer-Learning Visit "Religious Heritage for Inclusive and Sustainable Urban Development", organized within the framework of the European Heritage Hub and supported by the European Union.
The monastery is the only representative of Ukraine among participants from across Europe, presenting the Ukrainian experience of preserving and promoting religious heritage during wartime.
During the introductory online meeting, participants introduced the cultural heritage sites they represent. The delegation from Zhydychyn presented the monastery as one of the spiritual centers of Volyn, combining centuries-old monastic traditions, the preservation of sacred heritage, pilgrimage, educational activities, and community development.
From 18–20 June 2026, the in-person programme takes place in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, where participants exchange European practices in managing religious and cultural heritage. The programme focuses on innovative approaches to safeguarding and adapting sacred sites, strengthening pilgrimage and cultural centers, and highlighting the role of religious heritage in building resilient and inclusive communities.
For Zhydychyn St. Nicholas Monastery, participation in this initiative is an opportunity to share Ukraine's experience in preserving cultural heritage under the challenges of war while establishing new international partnerships and contributing to the European dialogue on the future of sacred heritage
